DAIRY NEWS – The countdown is on to the 2024 Business Conference presented by the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDP), set for March 13-14, 2024, at the Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. With 54 sessions in a variety of formats, the two-day event is the premier opportunity for every member of a dairy team to learn, network and grow.

Known as dairy’s premier educational event, the PDP Business Conference is scheduled for March 13-14, 2024, at the Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.

The 2024 Managers Academy for Dairy Professionals® presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), will position dairy leaders to balance accelerated consolidation, consumer trends and their dairy’s bottom line. 
DAIRY NEWS – Dairy producers, veterinarians, nutritionists and other dairy professionals interested in taking their financial management skills to the next level are invited to participate in the 2023-24 sessions of Financial Literacy for Dairy®, presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW).
 
Registration for Level Two of the 2023-24 program is currently open, with classes scheduled Jan 17-18, Feb. 7-8, and Feb. 28-29, 2024. Dairy financial experts Gary Sipiorski, agricultural business and financial consultant, and Dr. Kevin Bernhardt, PhD, Professor of Agribusiness at UW-Platteville, will facilitate the six days of training. Anyone who has completed Level One of the program in 2023 or prior years and those who place into Level Two in the online assessment at registration are encouraged to participate. Registration and online assessment must be completed by Jan. 15, 2024, for Level Two placement.

DAIRY NEWS – High-energy leadership training, hands-on labs, and interaction with researchers and grad students are in store for high school students attending the 2023 Stride® Youth Leadership Conference presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW). Students ages 15 to 18 are invited to participate in the fast-paced, one-day workshop scheduled for Saturday, September 23, at the UW-Madison Stock Pavilion. The program will begin with registration at 9:00 a.m. and conclude by 6:15 p.m.
 
DAIRY NEWS – As agriculture is increasingly integrated into the everyday lives of the American public, it’s imperative that rural and urban communities see themselves as partners. To create a forum for open dialogue and offer a firsthand look at the innovations used in dairy production, the 2023 Agricultural Community Engagement (ACE®) Twilight Meetings will be hosted by dairy farms in Washington, Rock, Polk and Wood Counties August 28, 29, 30, and 31, respectively.

The tours are a collaborative effort between Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), UW Discovery Farms®, Wisconsin Counties Association, Wisconsin Towns Association and Pheasants Forever with the objective of facilitating open dialogue and showcasing current technologies and innovations being used to preserve one of the state’s most critical resources.

The Agricultural Community Engagement® meetings provide an opportunity for dairy farmers to join with their rural and urban neighbors, community leaders and local elected officials to share ideas and solutions for issues that affect everyone: water and watersheds, conservation, transportation, local ordinances and more.
 
Dairy News- Conservation practices put in place on today’s dairy farms protect land and water resources and provide critical habitat for wildlife. Wisconsin Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever (PF/QF) and Professional Dairy Producers (PDPW) are hosting a tour of Sassy Cow Creamery near Columbus, Wis., to highlight some of these practices and the benefits they provide to the environment, cows and dairy farms. The tour will be held on Sat., June 25.
 
Dairy News- The PDPW Hoof Management Workshops will be held this month on dairies in New York, Wisconsin and South Dakota. Leading experts in dairy cow lameness and hoof care research will facilitate a series of on-farm interactive workshops designed for dairy managers, nutritionists, veterinarians, hoof trimmers and other key employees.
 
Dairy News- The PDPW Hoof Management Workshops will be held next month on dairies in New York, Wisconsin and South Dakota. This management-level series is designed for hoof trimmers, herdspersons, veterinarians and nutritionists and will include technical and hands-on learning segments, in addition to Q&A sessions with the presenters.
DAIRY NEWS – Hank Wagner was honored as the second recipient of the Dean Strauss Leadership Award at the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) Business Conference on March 17 in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. Wagner is a fourth-generation dairy farmer and president of Wagner Farms, Inc. in Oconto Falls, Wis., as well as an author, speaker and business coach.
 
DAIRY NEWS – Five students accepted into the 2022 PDPW Cornerstone Dairy Academy™ were awarded scholarships from the Wisconsin Rural Opportunities Foundation (WROF). Making the recent decision to transform a highly attended annual conference from an in-person event to one that was entirely live-streamed was not taken lightly by the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW). Figures show that the U.S. dairy industry is making progress in reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions released into the environment. But many experts feel more can be done to lower the carbon footprint on farms in the decades ahead.

With fears over the coronavirus still wreaking havoc, it could take time to understand and control the global market situation for 2020 and beyond. But agricultural economist Dan Basse of AgResource Company told attendees of the recent Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) virtual business conference there are indicators that bear good news for the year ahead.
 
For one, Basse told attendees U.S. feed prices will likely stay low or even fall during the coming months. “Now that phase one of the U.S.-China trade deal has been signed, the American farm sector is expecting better opportunities to sell commodities to our Asian customers,” Basse said. “Unfortunately, though, China has been tardy so far in making purchases.”
 
In tandem with Basse’s session, principal atmospheric scientist for Nutrien Ag solutions Eric Snodgrass presented a 2020 weather outlook. His predictions include a better crop-planting window of opportunity for the Midwest. He pointed to indicators that suggest farmers will not see the large amounts of precipitation 2019 saw. The data also favors an early spring.

Wisconsin Towns Association, Wisconsin Counties Association and Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) will host a week of ACE On-the-Farm Twilight Meetings at four progressive dairy farms, held from 6:00-8:30 p.m. August 26, 27, 28 and 29, 2019. Free and open to the public, the ACE Twilight Meetings are designed to bring together neighboring community leaders, elected officials, farmers and area community members interested in important issues facing rural Wisconsin.

On Wednesday, Sept. 27, the second session of the World Class Webinar “Abating Weather-Related Stress in Dairy” series will focus on various methods to combat weather-related stress in calves.  Dr. Geof Smith, professor of ruminant nutrition at North Carolina State University, will present “Minimizing the Effects of Weather on Calves” session from noon to 1 p.m. CT, online.  
Four Wisconsin dairy farm families open their farms to the public for a free guided tour, ice cream, and an evening of discussion focused on working to strengthen the state’s rural communities. The series of ACE (Agricultural Community Engagement®) On-the-Farm Twilight Meetings, August 28, 29, 30 and 31, are free and open to community members, educators, leaders, local and state elected officials, conservation officials and dairy and livestock producers. At all four dairies, the farm tour begins at 6 p.m., with ice cream served at 7 p.m., followed by the facilitated Q&A to end by 8:30 p.m.

Members of the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin have re-elected three members to its board of directors. During the group's annual meeting in Madison on Thursday, Mitch Breunig, Sauk City; Brian Forrest, Stratford; and Marty Hallock, Mondovi, were chosen to serve another three-year term.
In the name of equipping dairy producers with a clearer look at what consumers want from their food providers and dining experiences, a panel of industry leaders shared recent trends in the food system and restaurant industry at the recent 2016 PDPW Business Conference. Charlie Arnot, CEO of the Center for Food Integrity, led a panel discussion that also featured Craig Culver, Co-Founder and Board Chairman of Culver’s Franchising Systems, Inc., and Annika Stensson, Director of Research Communications for the National Restaurant Association.
Closing out the information-packed 2016 PDPW Business Conference was FDNY Chief Richard Picciotto, the Battalion Commander who served as chief of one of the first units to respond to the tragedy at the World Trade Center in Manhattan on September 11, 2001.
There is a voluntary effort within Wisconsin’s dairy industry to establish a proactive way to help farmers treat their sick cows in a manner that keeps milk and meat products safe for consumers, while ensuring the farm has a cost-effective method to keep their animals healthy.
Despite challenging times in agriculture right now, farmers do have tools at their disposal to help weather the storms created by low milk and commodity prices. Dr. Allan Gray is an agricultural economics professor at Purdue University, and also serves as director of the Center for Food and Agricultural Business.
