For this reason, the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) brings opportunities like the 2016 PDPW Herdsperson Conference to boost herd productivity. This one-day production Conference, held December 6, 7 and 8 at three locations, will equip herd owners, managers and other key dairy professionals with the management strategies to maximize their herd’s performance.

The one-day Conference will take place in three locations beginning at 8:30 a.m. with registration and concluding at 3:45 p.m. The dates and locations include:
  • Tues., December 6 – Fox Valley Technical College, 1200 E. Chesnut St., Chilton, Wis.
  • Wed., December 7 – Chippewa Valley Technical College, 620 W Clairmont Ave, Eau Claire, Wis.
  • Thur., December 8 – Southwest Technical College, 1800 Bronson Blvd, Fennimore, Wis.

Presenters include: Dr. Heather White, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Richard Pursley, Michigan State University, Dr. Gordon Jones, independent dairy performance consultant and partner at Central Sands Dairy LLC and Dr. Randy Shaver, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The four main sessions will address common bottlenecks affecting cow comfort and production; key forage quality benchmarks; transition cow nutrition and enhancing reproductive performance. The breakout sessions will allow participants to analyze real-farm feed test reports, review herd reports and treatment protocol for ketosis, examine case studies to identify reproductive bottlenecks and develop dry cow rations to optimize transition.
