Three Days of Training, Tours and Networking on Tap for Jan. 15-17 in Charleston, SC

DAIRY NEWSThe 2019 Managers Academy for Dairy Professionals™ presented by The Professional Dairy Producers® brings together two world-class trainers, networking opportunities and behind-the-scenes tours in one of America’s most historic cities to help dairy farmers and industry professionals successfully navigate today’s dairy industry.

The three-day Managers Academy executive education program will be held Jan. 15-17 in Charleston, South Carolina, and is designed for dairy owners and managers, industry directors, processors, marketers and distributors from across the country.

Business expert and trainer Ray Davis will lead participants through an interactive overview of Lean and Six Sigma concepts, outlining how these approaches can help dairy farmers identify where their businesses can be more efficient, nimble and productive.  Davis is a managing partner with Supply Velocity, a leader in business execution, process improvement and supply chain management who brings more than 35 years of experience in marketing, sales and entrepreneurship.

Tom Thibodeau will share the secrets of servant leadership that help participants strengthen their own management skills and built stronger teams in their organizations.  His lively, yet practical, presentations will focus on five key leadership areas that will deliver benefits for years to come.  Thibodeau has been a faculty member at Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wis. For 35 years.

The Managers Academy features three tours that will broaden perspectives on sustainability, resilience and new marketing opportunities:
  • Charleston Tea Plantation owned and operated by the Bigelow Tea Company is North America’s only tea plantation. Bill Hall, founder and partner with the Bigelow Tea Company will share insights on how the company overcomes sustainability, labor and marketing challenges, and participants will tour tea fields and factory on quaint Wadmalaw Island.
  • At the Port of Charleston, participants will get a firsthand view of the country’s most efficient and fastest-growing refrigeration ports.Learn how they are handling expansion amid regulations, competition, harbor dredging, and natural disaster threats like hurricanes.
  • The Carolinas are the perfect habitat for growing peanuts, but lack of processing mills, and obstacles such as food allergies and weather present challenges for peanut growers.Tour a peanut farm and hear about how growers are overcoming today’s market challenges.
