Carbon markets, managing input costs, regenerative practices spotlighted in sessions
DAIRY NEWS – More efficiently producing high-quality milk while also improving nutrient management, water quality and soil-health practices are critical to dairy’s future success. The 2022 Business Conference presented by the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) will feature a variety of sessions to equip attendees with information on managing resources across the farming operation.
Scheduled for March 16-17 at the Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. PDPW Business Conference has a full agenda of world-class presenters and variety of topics in nearly 60 keynote, break-out, hands-on and other sessions designed for all members of dairy teams, including sessions simultaneously translated into Spanish.

Carbon markets, managing input costs, regenerative practices spotlighted in sessions
DAIRY NEWS – More efficiently producing high-quality milk while also improving nutrient management, water quality and soil-health practices are critical to dairy’s future success. The 2022 Business Conference presented by the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) will feature a variety of sessions to equip attendees with information on managing resources across the farming operation.
Scheduled for March 16-17 at the Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells, Wis. Sessions focused on building farm and business sustainability include:
- “Carbon markets 101: offsets and credits,” this day 1 specialty session presented by Patrick Wood, founder of Ag Methane Advisors, will deliver the basics farmers need to understand how carbon credits and offsets work, and how and why this fast-moving market is evolving.
- “Digging regenerative ag,” this day 1 breakout session will be presented by a panel of leading dairy producers committed to regenerative-ag practices on their farms to increase biodiversity, improve soil health and protect water while supporting high-yielding livestock and growing businesses. Panel members include Randy Ebert, Ebert Enterprises, Algoma, Wis.; Jason Mauck, Mauck Farms, Gaston, Ind.; and Walt Moore, Walmoore Holsteins, Inc., West Grove, Penn.
- “Bold tactics for trends, markets and weather,” is the day 2 keynote session that’ll bring together three leading experts from different sectors: Charlie Arnot, CEO of Center for Food Integrity; Dr. Marin Bozic, PhD, assistant professor at University of Minnesota’s Department of Applied Economics and associate director of Midwest Dairy Foods Research Center; and Eric Snodgrass, principal atmospheric scientist for Nutrien Ag Solutions. They’ll share perspectives on the colossal implications of weather patterns and supply-chain issues that are sure to impact consumer choices, market and business trends in the short and long term.
- “Globally sustainable milk production,” is a day 2 breakout session that will feature a panel of global experts examining current milk production levels around the world. They’ll lead discussions on what sustainability looks like from a global standpoint. Panel members include Jay Waldvogel, senior vice president of strategy and global development at Dairy Farmers of America, Daniel Peerless, global sustainable sourcing lead for dairy, meat, poultry and eggs at Nestlé and Mary Ledman, global dairy strategist at RaboResearch.
- “Crop input costs on the rise,” is a day 2 breakout session that will take a deep dive into the impact of rising nutrient and other cropping-input costs. This afternoon session will explore strategies for cropping rotations and ration selections for the year ahead. Panelists include Eric Birschbach, owner and operation of Ag Site Crop Consulting LLC; Matt Lange, business consultant for Compeer Financial; and James Bailey, owner of ProAGtive Dairy Nutrition.
- Learning Lounge sessions in the Hall of Ideas on both days will feature 30-minute sessions sharing practical information about carbon markets, regenerative practices and more for farms to improve sustainability and a dairy’s bottom line.
