The dates and locations include:
Hands-on dissections and demonstrations are at the core of this unique calf training. Participants will rotate through three learning labs throughout the day. The first of these labs, presented by Dr. Cousin, will bring training with refractometers and offer insight into making critical calculations and the best utilization of whole milk balancers to support calf health and growth. Dr. Smith will highlight new developments in scour management and fluid treatment in the second lab to assist attendees in choosing the right oral electrolyte for their needs. The third lab, conducted by Dr. Lauer, will feature a first-hand look at the impact of diarrhea on calf intestines. Along with assessing common causes of scours, the lab will offer up tips and tricks for prevention and treatment.
A producer panel featuring three Wisconsin dairy farmers is another key highlight of this standout training. In this session, dairy farmers will candidly share their experiences, challenges and solutions with different housing management styles, feeding strategies and specific management philosophies. Facilities, nutrition and seasonal challenges are just a few topics of discussion during this one-of-a-kind producer interaction opportunity.
All in all, workshop participants will learn from the best experts in calf health, while sharing experiences that will equip attendees with new, practical calf raising techniques and knowledge to protect the foundation of their future. It is open to all and specifically designed for dairy owners, calf managers, nutritionists and veterinarians. Up to 6.9 CEU Credits are available to UW-School of Veterinary medicine (UW-SVM) and 5.0 CEU Credits are available to the American Registry of Professional Scientists (ARPAS) members.
