Final Water Quality Tours to be held June 21 in Oconomowoc

Final Water Quality Tours to be held June 21 in Oconomowoc
 
DAIRY NEWS –The Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) and UW Discovery Farms have one Water Quality Tours locations to explore in the Oconomowoc region, completing their three tours around the state, to highlight the dairy industry’s investment in water quality. The third and final tour will take place on Tuesday, June 21 in Oconomowoc, Wis.
 
The tours are open to the public, including business owners, elected officials, municipality leaders, farmers, and citizens who are interested in viewing water quality firsthand. Each tour will focus on the technical science, innovative engineering, and management factors used to ensure superior water quality.
 
On June 21, the Water Quality Tours will pick up at Summit Park and Ride, 36337 Delafield Road, Summit, WI 53066 at 9 a.m. and return to that same location by 3:30 p.m. Tour stops for that day include:
  • Stop 1: Koepke Farms. With over 135 years of farming in southeastern Wisconsin, Koepke Farms is a fifth generation family farm that has been a pioneer in many fields. This tour will showcase how it has served as a launching pad for other Discovery Farm projects.
 
  • Stop 2: Oconomowoc Wastewater Treatment Plant. Oconomowoc is seeking partnership with farmers on adaptive management to assist in meeting their Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) requirement. Attendees will hear what is happening on this forefront.
 
  • Stop 3: Tyranena Brewing Company. This tour will show how an 18-year-old brewery with a production capacity of 45,000 barrels manages the wastewater from the brewing process.
 
The charter bus time will foster connections with key project collaborators, such as Land Conservation Departments and the National Resources Conservation Service and open lines of diverse discussions, while highlighting the landscape-specific water quality challenges of each region.
 
The first Water Quality Tour was held on June 7 in Cashton and the second was held June 14 in Green Bay. There are still seats available for this final tour, but space is limited.
