DAIRY NEWS – Dairy farmers, managers and team members will find trainings to address many on-farm challenges and boost productivity on their dairy farms during November. The Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) will present several programs and host a three-day tour of dairy farms and creameries in Virginia throughout the month.
As a producer-led group, PDPW trainings and events bring dynamic education in a variety of mediums to help farmers and industry professionals stay at the forefront of issues impacting their businesses and to be on the leading-edge of technologies and practices for managing today’s high-performing modern dairy farm.
November training and educational events include:
PDPW Milk Quality Workshop, Wed., Nov. 1 in Onalaska, Wis. and Nov. 2 in Fond du Lac, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. each day. Learn the latest research and management practice to manage mastitis and use research data to spot trends, identify problem cows and manage your herd. Presenters will include Dr. Pamela Ruegg, DVM, MPVM, Professor and Extension Milk Quality Specialist at UW-Madison; Dr. Katie Mrdutt, Program Manager with the Food Armor Foundation; and Dr. David Rhoda, veterinarian. Participants will earn up to 4.75 Dairy AdvanCE CEs and up to 5.6 CEs from UW-SVM.
PDPW Dairy’s Visible Voice, Wed., Nov. 1 in Kewaunee, and Thu., Nov. 2 in Greenwood, Wis. from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day. Led by the MorganMyers brand management experts, attendees will learn proven leadership and communication skills to position your business for success, boost your farm’s value to the community, and develop a plan to protect your brand during this leadership development series. The five-session series will be held at two on-farm locations, including Pagels Ponderosa Dairy (Kewaunee County Series) and Boon Farms (Clark County Series) throughout the fall and winter of 2017-18. Participants will earn up to 34.5 Dairy AdvanCE CEs during the series.
PDPW Dairy Tours - Virginia, Nov. 6-9, 2017. Join 50 dairy farmers for a series of dairy tours throughout the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains, including stops at top dairies and creameries. Dr. David Kohl, dairy economist, will join the tours to showcase his farm’s homestead creamery and lead discussions during a tour of Stoney Brook Dairy. From there the group will see firsthand how dairy farmers in the “Old Dominion” state take charge and successfully manage their thriving and innovative dairy businesses. Participants will earn up to 18.0 Dairy AdvanCE CEs and up to 21.6 CEs from UW-SVM.
PDPW Feed & Nutrition Conference, Tue., Nov. 14 in Marshfield, and Wed., Nov. 15 in Arlington, Wis., from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. each day. Leading experts will share information on managing molds and toxins in feed supply, the potential benefits of new genetic forage varieties, and getting the most from feed byproduct ingredients. Presenters include Dr. John Goeser from Rock River Laboratory, Dr. David Combs from UW-Madison, and Dr. Paul Kononoff, University of Nebraska. Participants will earn up to 4.5 Dairy AdvanCE CEs and up to 5.9 CEs from UW-SVM.
PDPW World Class Webinars: "The Fundamentals of Good Hoof Health", Wed., Nov. 22, Dr. Nigel Cook, UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine, will show participants how to implement a strategy to achieve excellence in lameness management, enhance the dairy’s bottom line, and ensure productive cows. Participants who have registered can watch the session live or will receive a fully recorded version to watch at their leisure.
