Dairy Producers: Register Today for One-Day Event to Unlock Your Farm’s Sustainability Potential
PDP Carbon, Crops + Cows program offered across the state Nov. 12, 13 and 14
 
DAIRY NEWS – Conversations about carbon footprint, emissions and sustainability are everywhere. For dairy producers already focused on managing their cows, land and people, carbon conversations can be overwhelming. The Carbon, Crops + Cows program, presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDP) is a one-day, farmer-focused event designed to give producers the tools and knowledge to measure and manage their farm’s sustainability metrics.
 
The one-day event will repeat at three locations: Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Miltrim Farm in Athens, Wis.; Wednesday, Nov. 13 at GreenStone Farm Credit Services in Little Chute, Wis.; and Thursday, Nov. 14 at Arlington Ag Research Station in Arlington, Wis. The program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day, with lunch and program materials provided.
 
Attendees will take a deep dive into the tools and resources available to track carbon footprint, as well as the opportunities available to producers who know and understand their sustainability numbers. Key topics will include understanding carbon markets and carbon intensity scores and their impact on dairy operations. Participants will also learn about the FARM-ES, Comet and Cool Farm Tool models along with the reports each model generates.
 
“Sustainability is no longer a buzzword; we need to align with our processors and customers as they look to reduce their carbon footprint,” said JJ Pagel, owner and operator of Pagel’s Ponderosa near Kewaunee, Wis., and PDP board member. “This program will help producers understand what specific steps they can take to measure the practices they’ve already been following.” 
 
Presenters will include Carson Dugger, lead agronomist at Eocene Environmental Group, and Courtney Titus, technical services manager at Eocene Environmental Group, to provide insights on the measurement tools, reporting and carbon market opportunities. Dairy producers John Haag, owner and operator of Haag Dairy LLC, in Dane, Wis., and Paul Lippert, co-owner of Grass Ridge Farm, in Pittsville, Wis., will share their insights and lessons learned from carbon tracking and data analysis on their own farms.
Carbon, Crops + Cows will also highlight opportunities and lessons learned through PDP’s Your Farm – Your Footprint™ initiative, which empowers dairy farmers to know and understand their environmental footprint and offers solutions to shape the future of their farm. As the only farmer-led initiative, Your Farm – Your Footprint provides unbiased, data-protected approach and includes a comprehensive sustainability assessment, customized farm action plan, a peer-learning community and financial assistance.
