DAIRY NEWS – The Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) will be offering training and educational opportunities to serve both dairy producers and industry professionals this July 2017. As a producer-led group, these trainings and events bring dynamic education in a variety of mediums to help farmers and industry professionals stay at the forefront of issues impacting their businesses and to be on the leading-edge of technologies and practices for managing today’s high-performing modern dairy farm.
July training and educational events include:
Dairy Lunch n’ Learn: Rural Labor in Trump Era, repeating Tuesday, July 18, Eau Claire, Wis., and Wednesday, July 19, Chilton, Wis., from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on both days. Erich Straub, an immigration attorney with more than a decade of experience with dairy farmers, will provide an overview of the new administration’s immigration enforcement rules and discuss the implications of promises made for future actions. Straub will help farmers understand what is rhetoric, what is reality, and outline the risks for those that rely on immigrant labor, including helping to prepare for worst-case scenarios. These sessions are the first in a new PDPW Dairy Lunch n’ Learn Meeting series, designed to highlight a hot topic pertaining to dairy producers in a quick, focused format. Earn up to 2.0 Dairy AdvanCE Continuing Education (CE) Credits.
Agricultural Professional Partnerships (APPs) Training for Non-Farm Professionals, Tuesday through Thursday, July 25-27, departing each day from the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Madison, Wis., at 9 a.m. and returning at 5 p.m., with training held at high-performing dairy farms in the area. APPs is designed to provide on-farm training and perspective to agriculture industry professionals with limited on-farm experience. The program includes three modules — Fundamentals of Dairy Science; Farming, Fields and Food Fundamentals; and Fundamentals of Dairy Business Management — that will combine classroom training and on-farm experience. With space limited to first 15 professionals, each day is designed to target key modern dairy farming topics, challenges and opportunities. Earn up to 22.5 Dairy AdvanCE CEs.
World Class Webinars: Abating Weather-Related Stress in Dairy, Wednesday, July 26, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Dr. Geoffrey Dahl of the University of Florida will discuss the effects of heat stress during the dry cow period and understanding why keeping dry cows cool and comfortable in the summer is beneficial to her, the calf, and the dairy producers’ bottom line. Participants will learn what heat stress can do to mammary growth, metabolism and immune function and how these effects lead to a more challenging transition and result in a lower yield in the next lactation. Dahl will also discuss the impact of in utero heat stress on the calf and review the economic impacts of dry cow cooling. Participants can watch the webinar live or the recorded session later. Earn up to 1.0 Dairy AdvanCE CE.
Dairy AdvanCE is the nation’s go-to resource for continuing education in dairy. Find vetted trainings from trusted education providers, track and manage CE credits, and report your CEs through your secure transcript. Learn more at DairyAdvance.org or watch the video.
