Dairy Farmers: Plan to Attend On-Farm Events to Unlock Sustainability Potential
PDP Carbon, Crops + Cows Program, Farm Tours Set for Oct. 14 and 15

DAIRY NEWS – Sustainability is no longer optional. Industry customers, consumers and regulators have increased expectations for the way dairy farms care for land, cows and water. The Carbon, Crops + Cows program and field day presented by Professional Dairy Producers® (PDP) will help producers understand their sustainability score without giving away data, protect their future, open new market opportunities and stay ahead of industry demands.

The one-day event will be held at two locations: Tuesday, October 14 at Ruedinger Farms Inc in Van Dyne, Wis.; and Wednesday, October 15 at Maple Ridge Dairy in Stratford, Wis. The program runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, with lunch and program materials provided.

The farmer-focused event will include:
  • Presentations by experts including Carson Dugger, lead agronomist at Eocene Environmental Group, and Sage Saffran, manager of sustainability initiatives at National Milk Producers Federation.
  • Interactive sessions where participants can use the FARM-ES portal to test on-farm practices and see the potential impact on business and sustainability scores.
  • View sample reports from three sustainability reporting models and learn how to make the best use of information from each.
  • Hear first-hand insights from farmers who have participated in the Your Farm-Your Footprint initiative and learn how data analysis has helped them innovate and make impactful changes on their farm.
  • Tour a dairy and see sustainability strategies in action.

“Today’s dairy farmers are always improving how we care for our cows and land,” said Jake Hoewisch, Fremont, Wis., dairy producer and PDP board member. “It’s more important than ever to measure those improvements and understand how they impact sustainability scores so we can benchmark our current status, meet industry and customer expectations and position ourselves to capture value-added opportunities.”

Carbon, Crops + Cows will also highlight opportunities through PDP’s Your Farm-Your Footprint® initiative, which empowers dairy farmers to know and understand their environmental footprint and offers solutions to shape the future of their farm. As the only farmer-led initiative, Your Farm-Your Footprint provides an unbiased, data-protected approach and includes a comprehensive sustainability assessment, customized farm action plan, a peer-learning community and financial assistance.
