St. Croix FFA Student Wins GROWMARK Essay Contest

Wisconsin Ag Connection - Marie Hamlin of Roberts has been named the Wisconsin winner of the 2019 GROWMARK essay contest for FFA members. The theme of this year's competition was 'What does the future of agriculture look like to you, and what skills will you need to play a part in it?'

Hamlin is a student at St. Croix Central High School and a member of the St. Croix Central FFA Chapter. She will receive a $500 award from GROWMARK at the Wisconsin FFA State Convention this June, and her chapter will also receive a $300 award in honor of her accomplishment to help future students.

Meanwhile, four state runners-up will each receive a $125 scholarship. They include Chelsea Braun, Kiel; Sara Nehring, Weyauwega-Fremont; Madison Russell, Shullsburg; and Douglas Woyak, Elkhorn.

This is the 26th year for the program, sponsored by the GROWMARK System and FS member cooperatives, in conjunction with state FFA leaders, to help young people develop their writing skills, learn about current issues in agriculture, and understand the unique role of cooperatives.
