New US farmed seal to boost local agriculture on beer cans

USAgNet - Anheuser-Busch, in partnership with American Farmland Trust (AFT), is set to launch a U.S. Farmed certification, a new initiative to bolster support for American agriculture. The certification, appearing on beer cans from May, will confirm that at least 95% of agricultural ingredients are sourced from U.S. farms, thereby supporting local economies and promoting sustainable farming.

This move by Anheuser-Busch underscores its longstanding relationship with American farmers, highlighting the company's commitment to sourcing high-quality, local ingredients for over 165 years. The introduction of this certification is timely, as the U.S. agriculture sector faces significant challenges, including farmland turnover and sustainability hurdles. The U.S. Farmed seal aims to encourage consumers to support local products, ensuring the continuation of America's agricultural heritage.

Additionally, the certification funds will aid AFT's mission to offer more robust support to farmers across the nation, including succession planning and farmland protection. It's a strategic effort to preserve the agricultural landscape vital to the U.S. economy and food systems.

Beth Sauerhaft, acting president and CEO of AFT, emphasized the certification's role in fostering a market that appreciates and uplifts U.S. farmers. Anheuser-Busch's participation is pivotal, showcasing the certification on some of the nation’s most iconic beer brands and setting a precedent for other companies to follow. This initiative not only celebrates American-grown ingredients but also addresses critical issues facing the farming community today.
