USDA Under Secretary Greg Ibach to Speak at PDPW Dairy Food & Policy Summit
Event Features Leading Dairy and Food Chain Experts Dec. 19-20 in Madison, Wis.
 
DAIRY NEWS – Greg Ibach, Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs (MRP) at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, has been added to the top-notch line-up of speakers at the 2018 PDPW Dairy Food & Policy Summit presented by the Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW). Under Secretary Ibach will present at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20, kicking off the second day of the Summit at the Sheraton Hotel in Madison, Wis.
 
In his role as Under Secretary, Ibach’s main mission is to facilitate domestic and international marketing of U.S. agricultural products and ensure the health and care of animals and plants.  He oversees the Agricultural Marketing Service Agency and the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service Agency.
 
Before his appointment as Under Secretary in October 2017, Ibach served as the Director of Agriculture in Nebraska since June 2005.  As Director, he had oversight of Nebraska’s plant and animal heath regulatory functions and has been actively involved in foreign and domestic marketing and development activities for the better part of his career.  Ibach is also a former President of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture.
 
“Mr. Ibach was brought onto the Summit line-up to give producers and allied industry the timely answers and insights on today’s dairy marketing and export reality, as well as set the expectation and the plan for 2019 and beyond,” said Cassandra Strupp, PDPW Program Manager. 
 
Ibach joins a full slate of dairy experts, food system panelists, government, regulatory and food industry key thought leaders who will share perspectives on the most pressing issues facing farms, rural communities and the food system.  The Summit will be attended by dairy farmers, industry CEOs, food system department executives, key decision makers and thought leaders from across the food value chain.
 
The Summit is open for one-day or two-day registration and features an agenda of national experts on the economic, trade, regulatory and food system topics that are critical to today’s dairy industry.  The Summit will run from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 19, and from 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Thurs., Dec. 20.

Dairy Trends Panel to Feature Leading Retailers, Processors and Marketers
PDPW Dairy Food & Policy Summit discussion will highlight food and consumer trends to watch
 
DAIRY NEWS – How will changing consumer demands and food trends impact farmers and industry?  A panel of trendsetters from across the food value chain will share their insights on both the opportunities and potential pitfalls of changing consumer preferences at the 2018 PDPW Dairy Food & Policy Summit.
 
The Dairy Trends panel will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 19, during the first day of the summit presented by The Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) at the Sheraton Hotel in Madison, Wis. The annual summit brings together progressive dairy farmers, industry CEOs, food system department executives, key decision makers and thought leaders from across the food value chain for two days of discussions on key issues that impact farms, rural communities and the food system
 
From renewed interest in full-fat dairy products, increasing demands for protein-rich foods, and the introduction of new dairy products like A2 milk and ultra-filtered milk, the panelists will provide valuable perspective to help summit attendees understand how trends translate into dairy case sales.
 
Panel members will include:
  • Adrian Bota, Founder and CEO of The Origin Milk Company, an Ohio company that produces and markets A2 Guernsey milk.  His background in corporate strategy in the healthcare sector and multiple start-ups helped shape his business acumen and thought-provoking approach to the dairy industry. 
  • Laurie Horn, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing for Cheese and Butter at Foremost Farms USA, works with her team to market dairy solids in the form of cheese and butter to several different channels including foodservice, retail, convenience store and industrial/manufacturing.
  • Scott Falkenberg, Senior Category Manager at Kwik Trip, Inc., oversees all food commodity purchasing and marketing for the chain of convenience stores.  Prior to this role, he held multiple positions with Sam’s Club for over 23 years.
  • Ankica Runac is Senior Brand Manager with Fairlife.  Fairlife produces and markets ultra-filtered milk and other product from milk produced at its flagship dairy, Fair Oak Farms.
 
The panel will be facilitated by Linda Wenck, Principal at Morgan Myers communications firm.

Join the Conversation at the PDPW Dairy Food & Policy Summit
December 19-20 Event Features Conversations Between Farmers, Researchers, Policy Makers and More
 
DAIRY NEWS – Progressive dairy farmers, industry CEOs, food system department executives, key decision makers and thought leaders from across the food value chain will come together for a two-day meeting focused on key issues that impact farms, rural communities and the food system.  The 2018 PDPW Dairy Food & Policy Summit, presented by The Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW), will bring together a dozen top speakers and topics Dec. 19-20 at the Sheraton Hotel in Madison, Wis. 
 
The is open for one-day or two-day registration and features an agenda of national experts on the economic, trade, regulatory and food system topics that are critical to today’s dairy industry.  The Summit will run from 1:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Wed., Dec. 19, and from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Thurs., Dec. 20.
 
On Wednesday, Dec. 19, speakers will provide overview of policies and practice that have impacted global dairy markets, as well as a look at key trends in the global marketplace and with U.S. consumers.
  • “Prevailing in uncertain times,” presented by Sheila Harsdorf, Wisconsin Secretary of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, will provide a panoramic perspective on regulatory issues and initiatives such as Dairy Taskforce 2.0.
  • “A global view of dairy,” presented by Matt McKnight, Chief Operating Officer of the U.S. Dairy Export Council, will cover global trade, agreements, economy and policy.
  • “Ag policy, trade and the U.S. dollar,” presented by Dan Basse, economist and President of AgResource Company, will outline current macro-economic forces and what to expect in months ahead.
  • “Dairy trends panel: Look ahead, get ahead,” presented by Linda Wenck, Principal at MorganMyers will include a panel discussion with trendsetters from the dairy value chain, including a processor, dairy brand and retailer.

A specialty cheese reception sponsored by Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin will be held following Wednesday’s program.
 
On Thursday, Dec. 20, participants will focus on a range of topics impacting dairy farmers, including:
  • “Chat with Chad – progress report,” will include an update from Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin Chief Executive Officer Chad Vincent on the organization’s revitalized mission, vision and identity.
  • “Remember when bacon wasn’t so sexy,” presented by Bill Even, Chief Executive Officer of National Pork Board will provide a perspective on issues that the pork industry has addressed in recent years.
  • “Wisconsin update: NR 151,” will provide details on how this code change will impact operations. Eric Cooley, Co-Director of the UW Discovery Farms Program, will facilitate the discussion with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources employees Mary Anne Lowndes and Mike Gilbertson.
  • “Connecting the dots on transportation,” presented by Emily Yeiser Stepp, Senior Director of the FARM Program, and Chase DeCoite, Director of Beef Quality Assurance Program at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, will discuss regulations, best practices and animal health in animal transportation.

PDPW Dairy Food & Policy Summit Scheduled for Dec. 19-20
Two-Day Event to Feature National, State Experts on Food, Trade, Environmental Topics
 
DAIRY NEWS – For the dairy industry, 2018 has been a whirlwind year of economic, trade, and regulatory policy news that have impacted international markets and local farms.  The 2018 PDPW Food & Policy Summit presented by The Professional Dairy Producers® (PDPW) will provide an opportunity for farmers, ag and food industry professionals and policy-makers to come together to understand and discuss the complex dynamics that impact everything from global demand to consumer preferences for dairy products.
 
The Summit is a two-day collaborative event to be held Dec. 19-20, 2018, at the Sheraton Hotel in Madison, Wis.  The summit is open for one-day or two-day registration, and will bring together innovative dairy farm owners, industry CEOs, food system department executives and key decision makers and thought leaders from across the food value chain.
 
“We’re looking forward to two days packed with top-notch speakers and perspectives on some of the most important topics for our state’s farmers, economy and communities,” said Shelly Mayer, Executive Director of PDPW.  “The Dairy Food & Policy Summit brings together a variety of viewpoints to ensure that we are all in step with changing markets, regulatory policies and consumer trends.”
