Record Number of Soybean Acres to be Harvested in WisconsinWisconsin Ag Connection - September 13, 2017
The latest crop production forecast from the USDA expects Wisconsin's corn crop to total 494 million bushels this year. Production is not expected to break last year's record harvest or yield levels. Based on conditions as of September 1, yields are expected
to average 162 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month, and down 16 bushels from last year. An estimated 3.05 million acres will be harvested for grain.
Soybean production is forecast at 103 million bushels, down 4.53 million from last year. The yield is forecast at 48 bushels per acre, unchanged from the August projections, and seven bushels less than 2016. Acreage will be around 2.15 million acres with 2.14 million acres to be harvested. If realized, this will set a new harvested acres record with 190,000 more acres in production compared to the previous year.
The next corn and soybean production forecasts will be released on October 12.
